July has been very busy. I released two songs.  One was a rewrite of "She Calls Me Back" (previously titled "The Mountain"). The other was one that needed serious remix/mastering, which is now titled "Got No Place To Go".  (It was previously "No Place to Go"). 

I am very happy with both results. It's so liberating when you see clearly that you don’t need to follow the industry conventions. As an independent artist I'm not bound by any recording company regulations.

Along with those two releases, I continued participating in the "I heart Songwriting Club" and I'm writing furiously again. On top of that I've had a week of birthday celebration with various trips to enhance those celebrations. 

I’m still following on with my live performances. Still focussing on my local Banshees and I also did some songs at The Junk Bar. 

I'm looking forward to an extended holiday through September and October so August preparations will be hectic.  Awesome!

Songwriters Showcase ...

Just got back from Toowoomba after a lovely weekend centred around the Songwriters Showcase, which was held at the Cafe Guitar on Saturday afternoon.  Nine participating songwriters were on the whiteboard including the organiser, Peter Campbell.  I played "Breathe, Miss Sunshine" and "The Decision" (not yet released). I chose the second song based on the Country flavour of the event, as that song has an Australian Country Feel.  I was surprised how nervous I was, playing my own tunes, but I got through the performance with minimal chords misplaced and notes flattened. I collected another facebook friend and there was some positive feedback. Overall it was a successful first outing.  Most likely my next adventure will be the online Trimstone event in just over two weeks. I have been advised they would like four songs (if I pick the two short songs I played them), which sounds good to me.  I have no plans to go further with live performances. There are a few open mic

December wrap-up!

So much happened this year, it's hard to keep track of everything.  The last couple of months blurred together a bit, so you might have noticed there was no monthly update since October.   There were a couple of open mics at new-to-me venues in November.  Brewski in Brisane and a cafe in Tin Can Bay.  In total, I performed at 42 open mic events through the year. That tally included several visits to The Triffid (owned by former Powderfinger bassist, John Collins), the Tin Can Bay café and a morning busking stint at Byron Bay.  “My main motivation for attending open mic events is to get reactions to how I’m performing - as well as responses to the songs themselves”.  Although this year’s focus was on performing, another two songs were released. “Christmas Morning” came out in late November and “The Sun Sets” in late December. Awesome August ...

I had a great start to August off the back of the last day of July, when I played a few songs at West End Archive Brewery.  Just two days into the new month and I finally got to play at The Triffid! A night at the Beer Garden and playing a couple of songs was awesome. (You probably know the the iconic venue is owned by Powderfingers' bass player, John Collins).  The Campfire Sessions are run by Danny Widdicombe - and there was a lot of chatting. I'll definitely go again. Great place and people. After leaving The Triffid, I headed to Banshees for a drink and a chat with the guys there, discussing merchandise for my spot in the mid-October Live and Local show. Tim and Al were great suggesting what might work for a start-up merch line.  I had a few more nights out through August. My plan to continue performing and perfecting my songs takes time but really encourages me through the regular feedback from the audience. Onward!
