Where We Will Meet Again

Image
Some songs can't wait. This one was scheduled for next year and a proper recording but a friend insisted I couldn’t wait till then. He was right.  He has cancer and he’s old, so he values time.   He’s in the US. He posted an old song of his on FaceBook and I commented, mentioning this song cos it’s my only Country type song. I then sent him a link to my private Soundcloud file. He became very insistent that I post this for everyone, so I mocked the artwork and released it - just like that. It's a bare-bones acoustic ballad. Inspired writing that examines loss. If you feel it, share it. Edited to add:  David from The Casey Beat sent me as message and asked to play this song on radio - which he did as part of the Boxing Day show.

Say Goodbye

This is song is a continuation of my previous release, Mona. It's about a girl who keeps leaving and a guy who is more jaded, so has a plan to exact revenge - as soon as he gets her back home.

Top 30 (for Breathe, Miss Sunshine)!

"After much heart-wrenching deliberation, due to an outstanding volume and quality of entries this year, the results have now been listed under the Contest tab." Back in October  two of Nik's songs were short-listed in the Australian Songwriting Competition and we've been keenly anticipating the next round of results - the top 30 lists for each song category.  That announcement was made overnight and Breathe, Miss Sunshine is a finalist!  How good is that?!! The song is actually one of 44 in the Spiritual category, which was a bit of puzzle till we re-read the announcement: "Where songs scored identical marks, they have all been included, meaning that most categories list a few more songs than the prescribed number of just 30. The judges shifted a small number of songs to different categories than what they were entered into, if they thought this would benefit the progression of the song." Looks like we'll be going to the National Songwriting Awards some

Mona

I have been involved in a few dysfunctional relationships. Mona is a tribute to one type of dysfunction. It's about a guy and a girl,  and another guy and the police, changing locks and being unfaithful - and how love can make us look pretty stupid sometimes.  What more can I say?!

A Christmas Song!

Image
It's been a huge year for me - not sure whether that was because of, or in spite of Covid-19!   Back in January I had no intention of releasing any songs.  In March, I watched Pete Johns from GarageBand demonstrate the release process and it didn't seem too complicated, so I did one of my own. Wish You Merry Christmas is my 15th release for 2020.  (There are another two songs scheduled for December release and I'm working on more for the New Year). Two of this year's releases are short-listed in the Australian Songwriting Competition and by mid-December I should know if they've progressed further to the top-30 listings. One of the competition entries, "Breathe, Miss Sunshine" has received airplay on 3SER - along with six of my other songs. In fact, 3SER/The Casey Beat has been playing my songs every Saturday night (bar one) since 10 October, which is very encouraging.  I hope you enjoy my early message for Christmas. Just wanted to get it out there befo
