Childhood Songs

Image
Childhood Songs is an acoustic song looking at a young girl in a abusive situation. It's an acoustic ballad in 5/4.  It’s a bit dark and it may be a true story.  A darker song with a lighter finish. I’ve sat on this song for a while but finally decided to release.   I really like Childhood Songs so get on and have a listen if you can.

The Key Was On The Hook

I was away for The Casey Beat show last Saturday, so listened to 3SER in the ANZAC Park at Miles, Queensland - along with a hundred or so very friendly mozzies! David played "The Key Was On The Hook" to open the show - and then "The U.K. Strain" was next up. How good is that?!  (The mozzies seemed to really enjoy both songs, too)! The Key Was On The Hook is about a young girl struggling to deal with life while growing up, finding support and hope through help from her grandmother.

The U.K. Strain!

This song was conceived late Sunday afternoon while walking the dog - with my mask on, as per Greater Brisbane lockdown procedures.   I had previously mentioned that the UK strain sounds like a song from a British punk band, so I was playing with a lyric as I walked.  When I got home I decided I would finish the song, produce and then release it - while we were still in lockdown.  I initially posted on SoundCloud because YouTube and Spotify are a bit slower with their uptake.   Even before I released the song, it had been scheduled for The Casey Beat's Saturday night playlist on 16 December along with my next (planned) release "The Key Was On The Hook".  Obviously this is a UK punk rock song!

Grandma's Chest of Drawers

David played this song on The Casey Beat last night, as a pre-release.  I'm still super-excited to hear my songs on the radio and really appreciate all David's support - he's a great guy!   Grandma's Chest of Drawers was released overnight and is now available on all the usual platforms.  It tells the story of a young man who’s heritage comes into question when he finds a letter left for him by his Grandma.   What would you do?

Happy New Year!

This time last year I had no intention of releasing any songs. I changed my mind in March and by the end of December I'd released a total of 18 songs.  Two of those were short-listed in the Australian Songwriting Competition and "Breathe, Miss Sunshine" has now progressed further to the Top-30 stage.   "Breathe, Miss Sunshine" was played on The Casey Beat on 10 October - which was very exciting, as it was the first time one of my songs received air time!  David has since gone on to play another 11 of my songs each Saturday night since early October (bar one).  How good is that?!  12 songs played on the radio (some more than once) of the 18 released during 2020!  I'm stoked! I'm not sure of my goals for 2021 but I have scheduled three songs for January release.   The Casey Beat played "Mona" again tonight and David plans to preview my three January songs just prior to their release dates. Listen out for "Childhood Songs", "The Key
