What Am I Worth?

February was another busy month, which kicked off with a studio photo shoot down in Lake Macquarie.  Awesome images created while having so much fun - thanks, Naomi!

Music for World Peace released "What am I Worth".  I performed guitar and vocals, then Taylor Sappe produced the track. It's a song about the refugee experience from an Australian perspective.  Check it out via the Spotify link above.

I did a half hour performance for Giving Gigs, which was scheduled for a Friday night slot (in USA and Canada's time zone).  The recording has close to 400 views, so far.  How good is that?!

What else happened?  I was up at Banshee's for two open mic nights this month.  Always a great enviroment to be part of and nice to catch up with nice people.

Songwriters Showcase ...

Just got back from Toowoomba after a lovely weekend centred around the Songwriters Showcase, which was held at the Cafe Guitar on Saturday afternoon.  Nine participating songwriters were on the whiteboard including the organiser, Peter Campbell.  I played "Breathe, Miss Sunshine" and "The Decision" (not yet released). I chose the second song based on the Country flavour of the event, as that song has an Australian Country Feel.  I was surprised how nervous I was, playing my own tunes, but I got through the performance with minimal chords misplaced and notes flattened. I collected another facebook friend and there was some positive feedback. Overall it was a successful first outing.  Most likely my next adventure will be the online Trimstone event in just over two weeks. I have been advised they would like four songs (if I pick the two short songs I played them), which sounds good to me.  I have no plans to go further with live performances. There are a few open ...

Making connections ...

Lots of good stuff happening behind the scenes.  Banshees hosted two Music Industry Development sessions, facilitated by our local Council in conjunction with QMusic.  I was on night-shift for both of those but Rebecca went along in March and again in April.  She enjoyed all the presentations, took notes to share with me - and chatted to a few local artists.  (I've since joined QMusic, though was already on their mailing list as I attended one of their songwriting events last year). Quite a lot went on in April!  We both went to the APRA/AMCOS "Made by Music" event, held at The Triffid on a Saturday morning (with beautiful brunch catering).  I've been to a few of these but it was a first for Rebecca.  There was some excellent info presented, so we had lots to talk about afterwards - and some things to follow up on.   Our local library put on a Rhyme, Rhythm and Reason session, "a celebration of spoken word, songwriting and lyricism".  Th...

How Much You Mean to Me

I have been very keen to share my latest release with as many people as I can. This track, I consider, has captured a large part of who I am. When I just see or hear folks are struggling I often become emotionally involved, though I might not know much more of the story than the barest bit.  I feel it’s a common thing to experience compassion. We don’t talk about it all that much though.  "How Much You Mean to Me" was written on a night when a friend,who I only know through Facebook, was going through dire illness and was distressed.  I felt so deeply for them I had to write. Sometimes songs are born through so much more than just a need.  This song premiered on the radio last week. It released on Valentine’s Day. Not because it’s some romantic love song. It draws on the essence of love for each other, our overwhelming humanity as we see pain and torment and it stirs us to action. Have a listen. I give you all the gift of this song.
